LOVERS OF TRUTH TRACTS

The following tracts are used by written permission of Bro. Lewis Manual and his family.  Before He passed away we contacted him to see if we could continue his tract work on to future generations after he passed away.  He and his family entrusted our ministry to do so and so here they are.  Some of the very best tracts on the oneness of God, water baptism, and eternity security that you will find anywhere.  I personally believe that the late Bro. Manual was one of the sharpest minds and writers in the oneness movement in the last century.  He loved the truth and his articles will be a blessing to anyone who is seeking the Truth!

Sincerely,

Bishop Dale Collins

Hebrews 11:4 B "He being dead yet speaketh"

Every one of you

Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Matt 16:19. He was to open the door of salvation to the Jews and the Gentiles.

Peter preached to the Jews on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:38 -- He told them to "repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Vs. 39 -- "The promise is unto you and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the lord our God shall call." This includes us today -- two thousand years later. Have you obeyed the command given by Peter in Acts 2:38?

No Exceptions

Throughout the book of Acts, there were no exceptions made in God's plan of salvation.
All converts were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and all that received the Holy Ghost spoke in other tongues.

Repent or Perish

To be saved, you must believe in Jesus Christ with all your heart. Next, you must have a deep sorrow for your sins and repent, asking God to forgive you, and He will.

Luke 13:3 -- Jesus said, "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (No exceptions). Many churches will not ask you to repent. They only tell you to believe on the Lord Jesus and you are immediately saved.

No Other Name

Col. 3:17 -- Paul wrote, "Whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus." Water Baptism is both word and deed

Acts 4:12 -- There is none other name under heaven given among men whereby ye must be saved" -- the name of Jesus.

Apollos was the only one in the book of Acts who baptized wrong. He knew only the baptism of John the Baptist. He baptized the Ephesians.

Ephesians ReBaptized

Paul came to Ephesus where Apollos had been. Knowing there was only one water baptism in God's plan of salvation, he rebaptized them in the name of the Lord Jesus. When he laid his hands on them, they received the Holy Ghost and spake in tongues. Acts 19:3-7

The modern church refuses to baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus. They use the Catholic interpretation of Matt. 28:19, using the words "Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost" instead of the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Who is the Son?

Isa.9:6 -- Tells us who the Son really is: the Counselor (Comforter), the Mighty God and the Everlasting Father.

John 10:30 -- Jesus said, "I and my Father are one." Knowing who the Father, Son and Holy Ghost was, the Apostles baptized only in the name of Jesus Christ.

Remember, there is only one name under heaven whereby you must be saved. Acts 4:12

3000 Gladly Baptized

Acts 2:41 -- After peter preached that they must repent and be baptized every one of them in the name of Jesus Christ, "they that gladly received the word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." Hundreds of thousands are being baptized in Jesus' name throughout the world each year.

A missionary from West Africa called me for permission to print my tracts in their language. He said the people there were madly in love with my doctrinal tracts. I gladly gave him permission.

Samaria

There was very little fellowship between the Jews and the Samarians. Apostolic preaching broke down the barrier that had existed forever. Thousands of Jews were being baptized in Jesus' name. Read John 4:9

Acts 8:12-17 -- Philip,  a Jewish Christian, went to Samaria and preached the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. They were baptized, both men and women, in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Verses 14:17 -- Peter and John went down and laid hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost.

Gentiles

Acts, the 10th Chapter -- There was a devout man in Caesarea called Cornelius. He was a man of prayer and loved God with all his house. This doesn't mean he was saved. In a vision, an angel told him to send for Peter and he would tell him what he ought to do.

Acts 11:14 -- "He shall tell thee words whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved." Why Peter? He had the keys to salvation!

Acts 10:44-48 -- While Peter was preaching, the Holy Ghost fell on them for they heard them speak in tongues and magnify God. Vs. 48 -- "Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. RSV (No exceptions). Surely this proves that water baptism in Jesus' name is a must.

Every One

Acts 2:1-4 -- On the day of Pentecost, "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."

Mary Spake

Acts 1:13-15 -- This tells us that all the Apostles, the women and Mary (the mother of Jesus), and His brothers were all there. After the birth of Jesus, Mary was no longer a virgin. Matt. 1:23-25 -- the angle told Joseph not to know Mary until Jesus was born.

Matt 12:46-50 -- This tells us about Mary and her sons, the brothers of Jesus.

Apostles' Doctrine

Acts 2:42 -- The continued steadfastly in the Apostles' Doctrine" (Gospel). Most modern churches refuse to preach Acts 2:38 and Acts 2:4. Many Pentecostal churches believe Acts 2:4, but reject water baptism in Jesus' Name. Acts 2:38  The only Name whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Danger

Gal. 1:8 -- "Though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." I am not judging you; only God's Word can judge us. (God gave me this tract at 2 o'clock in the morning)

Revelations

Revelation 1:1-7

This foretells the future of the unfaithful and the wicked, as well as the holy and the faithful.  Best of all, in no uncertain terms, it tells us who Jesus really is..  With positive proof, it reveals that Jesus Christ is the Lord God Almighty.

It's a matter of life and death to know who Jesus is. St. John 8:24-26 -- Jesus said, "... if ye believe not that I am HE, ye shall die in your sins..." Too many believe He is the second person in the so-called trinity. That's not in the Bible!

Matthew 22:36-38 and Mark 12:26-29 -- Jesus was asked what the first and great commandment of the law was. He quickly quoted Deut. 6:4 -- "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord ..." Jesus, being God, knew there was none beside Him. This tract is written to furnish proof of the Oneness.

Six Proofs

This book of Revelation gives us six undeniable proofs that Jesus Christ is the Lord God Almighty. John Believe this before writing the book of Revelation. I John 5:20 -- " . . .The Son of God is come, . . that we may know Him that is true, . . . even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life."

1

Rev. 1:8  -- Jesus said, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, ... which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Rev. 1:17-18 -- "I am the first and the last: I am He that liveth and was dead; ... and, behold, I am alive for evermore ..." Jesus said He was the first, and the last.  Surely this proves Him to be God, for the God of Israel said in Isaiah 44:6 -- "... I am the first, and the last; and  beside Me there is no God." What further proof do we need that Jesus is the Lord God Almighty?!

To understand this better, we must keep in mid the dual nature of God. He took upon a body of flesh for 33 1/2 years. St. John 1:1 -- "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." St. John 1:14 -- "And the Word [God] was made flesh and dwelt among us..." God did this that He might give His life and shed His blood for the remission of our sins.

2

Rev. 4:2 -- "...Immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and One sat on the throne."

Rev. 4:6-8 -- There was a diversified group about the throne, worshipping Him that sat on the throne. (Vs. 8 -- This tells us Who was sitting on the throne.) "...They rest not day and night, saying Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."   Rev. 1:8 -- Jesus said He was the One which is, and which was, and which is to come, The Almighty.

There can be only one Almighty!

Rev. 4:11 -- Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou has created all things..."  St. John 1:3 & 10 -- Speaking of Jesus, all things were made by Him. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.  Col. 1:16-17 -- Paul said that all things were created by Jesus and for Him.  For more proof that Jesus is the Lord God Almighty, we go back to Isaiah 44:24 -- The Almighty God of the Old Testament said, "...I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; and spreadeth abroad the earth by myself..."

Rev. 5:9 -- They sang a new song to the Lamb, "Thou ...has redeemed us to God by thy blood..."  Whose blood?  Acts 20:28 -- The church of God was purchased by His (God's) own blood.  I John 3:16 -- "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He [God] laid down His life for us ..."

3

Rev. 11:16-17 -- "And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God, ... fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, saying, "We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned."

Verse 15 tells us that Jesus shall reign forever and ever.

For further proof that Jesus Christ is the Almighty, we go back again to Rev. 1:8 -- Jesus said, "I am [the One] ... which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

4

Rev. 15:3 -- "And they sing the song of Moses... and the ... Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints'." He's not only the King of saints, He's the King of Kings!

This is the fourth time in the book of Revelation where Jesus, the King of saints is called The lord God Almighty.   More to come!

5

Rev. 19:13-16 -- "...He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called the Word of God ... He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORD." What further proof do we need that Jesus is the Almighty God?!

6

Rev 21: 22 & 23 -- "And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, ... for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof."

MYSTERY

God and the Lamb are one. St. John 10:30 --  Jesus said, "I and my Father are one."  I Timothy 3:16 -- Paul said, "...without controversy great is the mystery...: God was manifest in the flesh [the lamb], justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, ... received up into glory."

Jesus knew it was a mystery. St. John 16: 25-26 -- "These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no longer speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the father."

Rev. 22:3 -- "...The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and His servants shall serve Him [singular]: and they shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads."  Please note that it's never "them" or "their", but always "Him" or "His".

Rev. 4:2 -- "...A throne was set in heaven, and One sat on the throne." The oneness of God is Biblical and very clear. It's so amazing that anyone could believe in the trinity.

ADDED PROOF

Final and undeniable proof that the Father and the Son are one, and that Jesus is the Lord God Almighty. Rev. 22:16 -- "I Jesus am the root and offspring of David..."  He's telling us that He's the father and son of David. This is because of His dual nature, divine and human.

The major prophet Isaiah reveals this great truth in Isa. 9:6 -- "Unto us a Son is given ... and His name shall be called... The mighty God, The everlasting Father ..."  Yes, the son is both God and Father!

All I wanted to write in this tract was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. We must worship God in Spirit and in TRUTH. Only the TRUTH can set you free.

Mystery

Of the

FATHER

and the

SON

Question:
Who is the
root and offspring
of David?   Rev. 22:16

By: Lewis E. Manuwal
The 8th in a series of Godhead tracts

I Jesus, am the root and the offspring of David and the bright and morning star.  Rev. 22:16

Here the dual nature of Jesus is revealed  It is impossible to understand the Godhead unless you consider His dual nature.  Through His divine nature, He was the origin or Father of David. By His human nature, he was the descendant or son of David. Adam Clark confirms this.

This amazing truth is also taught by Jesus in Matthew 22:42-45.  Jesus quotes Psalms 110:1, where David said, "The LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand till I make thin enemies thy footstool. Here Jesus admits that He is both LORD (Father) and Son of David.

LOVERS OF TRUTH

My tracts are known as the Lover of Truth tracts.  The truth of who Christ really was and is has been hidden for centuries to many Bible scholars. They are willing to accept the Catholic theory of the Trinity that claims that Jesus is merely the second person in the Godhead.

You cannot possibly love Jesus with all your heart unless you have a deep love for the truth. St. John, the fourteenth chapter, tells us that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  The truth sets us free from false doctrine and the traditions of men. If we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (St. John 4:24).  The more I seek after the truth, the greater my love for Him becomes. Remember, love is reciprocal. His love for us increases also.

Is it that important to know who Jesus is and to correctly identify Him with the Father?

Yes, It's a matter of life or death!

St. John 8:24 -- Jesus said, "If ye believe not that I AM (He), ye shall die in your sins." In most Bibles that word "He" is in italics, meaning that it was not in the original text. St. John 8:27 -- The understood not that He spake to them of His Father.

St. John 8:58, Jesus said, "before Abraham was, I AM" (not I was).  Here Jesus claims to be Jehovah God of the Old Testament. Exodus 3:14,15.  -- God told Moses to tell Israel that I AM hath sent you, and that this is my name forever.  Adam Clark writes that I AM in the Hebrew means Jehovah Elohim.

What greater proof do we need that Jesus Christ of the New Testament is Jehovah God of the Old Testament. Remember when Lord is spelled with a capital L in the New Testament, it always means Jehovah.

Jesus did not want anyone to be ignorant of who He was. He said, "I and my Father are one." St. John 10:30.

MORE BIBLE PROOFS

The apostle John was a devout lover of Jesus and a lover of truth. He recognized Jesus for who He really was. EXAMPLE - St. John 14:8-11 -- Philip said, "Show us the Father."  Jesus answered, "Have I been so long time with you and yet thou hast not known me? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father." Billy Graham in his question and answer column in major newspapers, used the above scriptures to prove that Christ was truly God. (Copies of his articles will be sent upon request.) John said in I John 2:23 that he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. You can't have one without the other.

St. John 1:1 & 14 -- "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Vs. 14 -- "And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us."

Paul agrees with John in Col. 2:9 -- The fullness of the Godhead dwelleth bodily in Christ. The Living New Testament says, "in Christ there is all of God in a human body." Yes, He was the Almighty God. Rev. 1:8 -- JESUS SAID SO!

WAS JESUS HIS OWN FATHER?

We oneness people say YES.  It is an amazing mystery, but true. It is quite shocking to our Trinity friends that believe in three separate persons in the Godhead.

Without believing i the dual nature of Christ, none of this would make sense. Jesus was both human and Devine. Being Divine, He was the Holy Ghost overshadowing Mary, who gave birth to His fleshly body.

St John 14:26 -- Jesus said, "The Comforter is the Holy Ghost." (Father) St. John 14:7 -- Jesus said, "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also; from henceforth ye know Him and hath seen Him."

St. John 14:17, 18 -- Jesus said, that the world does not know the Spirit of Truth (Holy Ghost), "but ye know Him for He dwelleth with you, but shall be in you." vs 18 -- Jesus said, "I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you." Truly Jesus is the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, the Father and His own human body.

No wonder Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be the Everlasting Father and the Mighty God. Isaiah 9:6.

Water Baptism

according to  . . .

THE BIBLE and HISTORICAL REFERENCES

that relate to doctrines and practices of the Early Church, 33-100 A.D.

Compiled by Lewis Manuwal
SHOULD YOU BE IMMERSED  or SPRINKLED WHEN BAPTIZED?

The LAST MESSAGE preached by Jesus was a COMMAND to BAPTIZE all nations.  Matthew 28:19

The FIRST MESSAGE preached by the apostles resulted in a command for EVERYONE to be BAPTIZED.  Acts 2:38

BAPTISM IS IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE.

Below are two columns listing the SCRIPTURES for IMMERSION
and the SCRIPTURES for SPRINKLING

IMMERSION

SPRINKLING

MUCH WATER " And John also was baptizing in Aenon . . . because there was much water there"  John 3:23
INTO THE WATER "They went down both into the water, . . . and he baptized him"  Acts 8:38
OUT OF THE WATER "They were come up out of the water" Acts 8:39
BURIED "We are buried with him by baptism" Romans 6:4
PLANTED "We have been planted together" Romans 6:5

Without question the early church taught and practiced baptism by immersion.

Paul said, "If we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel let him be accursed" Galatians 1:8, 9

IMMERSE or SPRINKLE?

BAPTIZO - GREEK RANTIZO - GREEK
Below are writings of eminent Bible scholars and authorities on the subject.
Most of these references can be found in your local library.

GREEK

Greek-English Lexicon Baptism taken from Greek word baptizo - to dip, immerse.
Classic Greek-English Dictionary, by Pollet Greek word baptizo means to dip under.
Greek-English Dictionary, by Divry's Greek word baptizo - to immerse.
  AUTHORITIES
Schaff-Herzog Religious Encyclopedia Baptism was always a burial.  The command to baptize was a command to immerse.  Vol 1, pg 451
Catholic Biblical Encyclopedia Immersion was oldest method employed.  Buried in baptism.  Romans 6:4.  Pg 61, Paragraph 2.
Encyclopedia Dictionary of the Bible It is evident that the action performed in baptizing was immersion.  Page 202
World Book Encyclopedia The early church practiced immersion or submerging under the water.  Volume 2, page 70.
Encyclopedia of Lutheran Church Martin Luther preferred immersion as more true to original practice.  Volume 1, Page 188.
Pulpit Commentary, by Eminent Scholars Romans 6:4, "Buried in baptism."  The reference is to baptism by immersion.  Volume 18, Page 156.

LOGIC

An important factor is overlooked by the exponents of sprinkling. The original New Testament text and the spoken language of that day was Greek. The authors of the New Testament knew the Greek word "baptizo" meant to immerse.  They also knew the Greek word "rantizo" meant to sprinkle.  These often used words were never interchangeable, having separate meanings.  If God had intended for His ministers to sprinkle, the Greek word "rantizo" would have been employed, not "baptizo."

If sprinkling cannot be found in the Bible, then the practice is a tradition of man,
which makes the "word of God of none effect"  Mark 7:13

INFANT BAPTISM?

As with sprinkling, the doctrine of infant baptism cannot be found in the New Testament without adding to it.  Scriptural logic cries out against infant baptism.  The very mode (immersion) makes it illogical and impractical.  The teaching surrounding baptism automatically prohibits it.

THE BIBLE SPEAKS!

MATTHEW 28:19 Teach all nations, baptizing them"  Teaching or preaching must precede baptism.  See Acts 2:41.
ACTS 8:36-37 Eunuch,  "What doth hinder me to be baptized?" Philip, "If Thou believest with all thine heart."   Believing is a prerequisite of baptism.  See Mark 16:16.
ACTS 2:38 "Repent and be baptized everyone of you."  Repentance must precede baptism.  See Luke 24:47

DID YOU KNOW?

Chambers Encyclopedia.  Vol 2, Pg 112

The first recipients of baptism were adults.  Infant baptism was a later development that led to sprinkling.
Interpreters Bible Dictionary, Vol. 1, Pg. 352 There is no direct evidence in the New Testament for infant baptism
Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol 1, Pg 138 The earliest Christian literature makes no reference to baptism of infants
History of Church, by Walker, Pgs 87, 88 The first mention of infant baptism was about 185 A.D.  Not universal until 6th Century.
Time Magazine, Pg. 58  - May 1968 That 350 Lutheran pastors of W. Germany wish to abandon infant baptism.  Many of these same pastors refused to baptize their own infants.  They felt that baptism should be understood first by the recipient.
Time Magazine, Pg 58  -  May 1968 That Karl Barth of Switzerland, the best known theologian of 20th Century said,  "There is not Biblical basis for infant baptism - this tradition is simply an old error of the church."

A child should be old enough to receive teaching, believe, and repent of sin before being baptized.
Dedicating children to God and asking Him to bless them is Biblical.  This Jesus did in Luke 18: 15-17, Matthew 19: 13-15.

BAPTISM -- IS IT IN THE PLAN OF SALVATION?

1.  THE BIBLE SAYS SO!

JOHN 3:5 "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."  Most Bible commentaries agree that water here refers to baptism.

See, Matthew Henry; Adam Clark; History Christian Church, Walker; Catholic Encyclopedia; Oxford Dictionary of Church; Interpreters Dictionary of Bible;  Temples Bible Dictionary.

MARK 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved."  Notice how Jesus places baptism in conjunction with salvation.
I PETER 3:21 "Baptism doth also now save us."  Also see Acts 10:6, 48

2.  IT REMITS SIN

HEBREWS 9:22 The application of the blood of Christ is necessary to remit sin.  What then is the Biblical way to receive remission of sin?  The answer to this question will also be the way to get the Savior's blood applied.
LUKE 24:47 "Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name"  (Jesus)
ACTS 2:38 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins . . . "  The blood of Jesus is applied through water baptism in the name of Jesus.  Also see I John 5:8 and Acts 22:16.

3.  BAPTISM IN THE CHURCH

Every New Testament church was formed by those whom were baptized after believing and repenting.
Galatians 3:27 and 1 Corinthians 12:13.

1.  CHURCH AT JERUSALEM 3000 WERE BAPTIZED Acts 2:41
2.   CHURCH AT SAMARIA Believed & were baptized, men & women. Acts 8:12-16
3.   CHURCH AT CAESAREA Peter commanded them to be baptized Acts 10:48
4.   CHURCH AT PHILLIPPI Lydia & the Phillippian jailer baptized Acts 16:14-33
5.   CHURCH AT CORINTH Believed and were baptized Acts 18:8
6.   CHURCH AT EPHESUS Paul rebaptizes certain disciples Acts 19:1-6
7.   CHURCH AT GALATIA Believed Paul and baptized into Christ Gal. 3:27
8.   CHURCH AT COLOSSE They were buried with Christ in Baptism Col. 2:12
9.   CHURCH AT ROME They died to sin, then buried in baptism Romans 6:1-4

Baptism

1.  IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON & HOLY GHOST

OR

2.  IN THE NAME OF JESUS

Which of these were practiced by the
Apostles and the Early Church?

Below are two columns for listing the scriptures where the Apostles either taught or practiced water baptism

IN THE NAME OF JESUS FATHER, SON AND HOLY GHOST
Jews - "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ"  Acts 2:38
Samaritans - They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  Acts 8:16
Gentiles - "And he (Peter) commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord"  Acts 10:48.  Jesus is Lord (Acts 2:36)
Peter taught - For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved"  Acts 4:12.
Paul taught - "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus"  Col. 3:17
Matthew 28:19 was a command by Jesus to baptize in a NAME.  The Apostles did not repeat the words of the command, but they did obey it as seen in the scriptures above.  Since Father, Son and Holy Ghost are titles of the manifestations of the Almighty Spirit and His body, the Apostles understood His SAVING NAME to be JESUS.  Can any dare say that the Apostles disobeyed the Lord, or failed to baptize properly?  THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON AND HOLY GHOST IS JESUS.  The actions of the Apostles in the Book of Acts prove this to be true.

Baptism

IN THE NAME OF JESUS

HOW DID THE EARLY CHURCH INTERPRET CHRIST'S COMMAND IN MATTHEW 28:19?
ACTS 2:38, 8:16, 10:48, and 19:5 are four Biblical references that answer this question.  If the Biblical record is not enough, please examine the findings of the educated scholars and historians.

Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics (1951), II, 384, 389 "The formula used was 'in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ' or some synonymous phrase."
Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible (1962), I, 351 "The evidence . . . suggests that baptism in early Christianity was administered not in the threefold name, but 'in the name of Jesus Christ' or 'in the name of the Lord Jesus."
Hastings's Dictionary of the Bible (1898), I, 241 "[One could conclude that] the original form of words was 'into the name of Jesus Christ' or 'the Lord Jesus.'"
The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge (1957), I, 435 "The New Testament knows only baptism in the name of Jesus."
Canney's Encyclopedia of Religions (1970), page 53 "Persons were baptized at first 'in the name of Jesus Christ' . . . or 'in the name of the Lord Jesus.'"
IS IT AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY THAT THE NAME OF JESUS BE SPOKEN WHEN A CANDIDATE FOR WATER BAPTISM IS BEING BAPTIZED?

For the answer to this question, please read Acts 15:17 and James 2:7 [Greek Interlinear].  First Century Christians INVOKED OR CALLED the name of Jesus over believers in water baptism.  If, as some say, "the name of Jesus means the authority of Jesus", then so much more should the NAME, rather than titles, be called over an individual in baptism.  Read Matthew 28:18, Acts 4:12 and Colossians 2:9.  Jude 3 is an exhortation to "CONTEND FOR THE FAITH ONCE DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS."  See Galatians 1:8-9 also.  Should anyone dare to change what CHRIST and the Apostles established?

The Rest of the Story

by Aquila & Priscilla

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord: and bring fervent in the the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord knowing only the baptism of John  (He had never heard the rest of the story.) Acts 18:25, in the Living New Testament.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.  (They told him the rest of the story.) Acts 18:24-26

Is It Possible

Is it possible to be eloquent, instructed and knowledgeable in the scripture, fervent and bold in preaching, and yet be wrong?

Is it possible to be one hundred percent honest and sincere and not possess the full and more perfect plan of salvation?

I truly believe there are many outstanding, well educated and gifted ministers, such as Apollos, who have never heard the rest of the story.  Perhaps the greatest attribute of Apollos was his humble and receptive spirit, that made him willing to hear and obey the more perfect plan of God.  I wish today that men could share the spirit and humility of this great man.

The Rest of the Story

What was the rest of the story?  What is the more perfect plan of salvation?  Aquila and Priscilla knew it, for they were tentmakers with Paul, and had received it from him.  Read on, as the rest of the story unfolds in the following chapter. Acts 19:1-6
Verse one, Paul visits Ephesus and finds certain disciples whom Apollos had recently baptized.  (Please remember, Apollos knew only the baptism of John. Acts 18:25.  These were not disciples of John the baptist; John had been dead nearly twenty four years.
Verse two, Paul asks if they had received the Holy Ghost since they believed?  They answered that they had never heard of the Holy Ghost.
Verse three Paul's curiosity mounts, he quickly asks, "How then were ye baptized?"  Their answer, "Unto John's baptism."  (This was all Apollos knew at that time.)
Verse four Paul explains, "John didn't have the whole story, he merely taught to repent and to believe on the Lord Jesus." How typical this is of todays teaching by those who have never heard the rest of the story.
Verse five and six, Paul wastes no time in putting the more perfect plan into action,  He rebaptized them in the name of the Lord Jesus, laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost and spake in tongues.

PLEASE NOTE; The apostles always baptized in the name of Jesus.  The trinitarian formula was never used. They knew that the name of the Father, Son & Holy Ghost was Jesus. John 5:43, 14:26, & Matt. 1:21, Heb. 1:4, Jesus inherited His Father's name even as children do today.

The More Perfect Way

What then is the more perfect way?  The 19th chapter made it quite clear.  We must not only believe in the Lord Jesus and repent of out sins; but we must be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus and receive the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues.

Paul resisted this way at first, but on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians, he was struck down.  The Lord told him to arise and go into the city and it would be told him what he must do.  Once there, Ananias told him to receive the Holy Ghost and be baptized.  Acts 9:1-18.  Paul retells it again in Acts 22:16, "Why tarriest thou, arise and be baptized for the washing away of thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord."

2 or 3 Witnesses

A story can only be proven true in the mount of two or three witnesses.  Let's go from Ephesus to the household of Cornelius; these were the first gentiles to be saved.  Acts 10.  The angel told Cornelius to send for Peter who would tell him what he oughtest to do.  Vs 6 Retold in Acts 11:14.  "Who shall tell thee words whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved."

While Peter was telling them the rest of the story, the Holy Ghost fell on them.  How did they know this?  For they heard them speak with other tongues.  Peter quickly cried out "can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized."  Immediately he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (RV) Acts 10:44-48

The Keys

Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom and wanted him to be the first to reveal the perfect plan of salvation.  Matt16:19.  On the Day of Pentecost, the birthday of the church, Peter had this opportunity.  While preaching to a great multitude, they suddenly cried out, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"  Then Peter said unto them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."  That day over 3,000 responded and were baptized.  Acts 2:37-41
Friend, now that you've heard the rest of the story, or the more perfect plan of God, what will you do with it?  Why not do what the Ephesians did?  It can change you from an ordinary christian into a genuine born again child of God.  It will place you in the same category with Apollos, Aquila and Priscilla, the Ephesian christians, and the household of Cornelius.  When it comes to anything as important as eternal life, why settle for anything less than the more perfect way?

THE TRUTH ABOUT

ONE LORD
ONE FAITH
ONE BAPTISM

Ephesians 4:5

By Lewis E. Manual

Many Bible Proofs

The following scriptures, properly interpreted, give us positive proof that Christ and God are one.  It will also, without a doubt, give us the only true plan of Bible salvation
ONE LORD

Over seven hundred times in the Old Testament, the Jewish name of God was JEHOVAH THE LORD.  When the word "LORD" was spelled with all capitals, it always meant "JEHOVAH."

The Greek word for "Lord" in the New Testament, when spelled with a capital "L" always means "JEHOVAH."  It was used over six hundred times.
W.E Vine's Expository of New Testament Words says that "Jesus" is a transliteration of "Joshua," meaning "JEHOVAH is salvation."
Acts 2:36 - "Let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus both Lord (JEHOVAH) and Christ (Messiah)."
Jesus was asked in Matt. 22:36-38 and in Mark 12:28-30, "What is the first and great commandment of them all?"  In Mark, Jesus quoted Deut. 6:4, "Hear, O Israel. the LORD our God is one LORD."
NOTE: In the Encyclopedia Britannica under the word "trinity," it states that because of Deut. 6:4, it would be impossible for Jesus and HIS Jewish apostles to believe in a trinity.
ONE FAITH The world today recognizes many faiths: Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic and others.
The true church, which started on the day of Pentecost, was Apostolic and preached the Apostolic doctrine.
Jude, in verse three, admonished all to "contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints."
Who delivered this faith?  Peter, having the keys to the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 16:19), delivered the saving message to the Jews and later to the Gentiles (Acts 10).  The Jews, under great conviction, cried out to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "What shall we do?"  Peter said.  "Repent and be baptized every one of you  in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of  sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  The promise is unto you and your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call"  (Acts 2:38, 39)
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. (Acts 2:41)  This is the Apostolic faith and doctrine in action.  Acts 2:42 - "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine.

DARE WE, OR EVEN AN ANGEL PREACH ANY OTHER GOSPEL?  Read the answer in Galatians 1:8

ONE BAPTISM All of the recorded baptisms in the Bible after the Day of Pentecost were done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Apollos baptized the Ephesians wrong (Acts 18 and 19).  Paul came to Ephesus and re-baptized them in the name of the Lord Jesus and they received the Holy Ghost and spake in tongues (Acts 19: 1-6).
Read on for proof of how to become a member in the Body of Christ (the Church).
ONE SPIRIT AND
ONE BODY
Ephesians 4:4 -- "There is one body and one Spirit."  I Cor. 12:27 -- The body of Christ is the church.
What is the Bible way to get into Hs body or the church?  I Cor. 12:13 -- "for by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body" (church), whether we be Jews or Gentiles.  The Jews received this experience on the Day of Pentecost.  Acts 2:4 -- One hundred and twenty, including Mary the mother of Jesus, were "filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."
The Gentiles in Acts 10 were filled with the Holy Ghost while Peter was preaching unto them.  "They likewise spake in tongues as the Jews did at Pentecost.  Peter immediately commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." (RV).  Friend, God makes no exceptions.  If you have received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues, then to have Bible salvation, you must be baptized in Jesus' name.  Acts 4:12 -- "Neither is there salvation in any other name"  (Jesus).
ONE GOD  AND
FATHER
Ephesians 4:6 -- "One God and Father of all."
Yes, there is only one God and one Father.  Jesus is known as both God and Father.  Isaiah 9:6 -- "Unto us a child is born, a son is given.  His name shall be called the Mighty God and the everlasting Father, . . .  You must consider the dual nature of Christ.  For thirty-three years, He was both man and God.  Further scripture should convince you that Christ and God are one and not two persons.
Genesis 17:1 The Lord told Abraham.  "I am the Almighty God."
Exodus 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty . . .
Rev 1:18 Jesus said, "I am the Almighty."
1 John 5:20 (in the Living New Testament) "God's son, Jesus Christ, is the only true God and eternal life."
Titus 2:13 Our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ" (NIV).
Jude 25 "To the only wise God our Saviour" (Jesus).
NO, NO! There cannot be two "Almighty Gods."  Surely, God and Christ are one and only one.
ONE CREATOR Perhaps the most undeniable proof in the Bible that Christ and God are one is the story of creation.
Nehemiah 9:16 "Thou art the LORD alone, thou hast made the heaven and the earth and all things that are therein."
Isaiah 44:24 "Thus saith the LORD (JEHOVAH), I am the LORD that maketh all things, who stretcheth forth the heavens alone, that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself. (Alone" and "by myself" -- Quite plain!)
St John 1:3 and 10 "All things were made by Him and without Him nothing was made that was made."  Vs. 10 -- "He (Jesus) was in the world, the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not."
Col 1:14-17 "We have redemption through His blood."  He "is the image of the invisible God,"  (the part you can see of God).  "For by Him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven and earth."
Isaiah 44:24 God (JEHOVAH) said that He made all things alone and by Himself,  Surely God and Christ are one.

HOW CAN YOU HELP BUT BELIEVE IT?

Don't Believe It!

Five misleading teachings about speaking in tongues

Concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Corinthians. 12:1

1

FALSE
Many Pentecostal & Charismatic Christians believe that the 120 on the Day of Pentecost received the gift of tongues.  Therefore, since the gift of tongues is not mandatory, it is not required that all speak in tongues when receiving the Holy Ghost.

TRUE
Tongues is the initial evidence of the Holy Ghost Baptism, and all will speak in tongues the moment they receive this experience.  The purpose of these tongues is entirely different from the gift of tongues as the following scriptures will prove.

THE HOLY GHOST FOR ALL

The Holy Ghost is for all who obey the plan of God for salvation.  Acts 5:32, Acts 2:38, 39; John 3:5; For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body.  (Church) 1 Cor. 12:13

GIFT OF TONGUES-NOT FOR ALL

The gifts of the Spirit are divided to every man severally as he will.  1 Cor. 12:11.  This means you may receive several gifts, but not necessarily the gift of tongues.

ONE AT A TIME-DIVINE ORDER

The gift of tongues is scripturally governed.  If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or the most, by three, and that by course (one at a time) and let one interpret.  1 Cor. 14:27.

GOD IS PERFECT

God being perfect, could not give us an imperfect example at Pentecost.  The 120 received the Holy Ghost & all spoke in tongues at the same time as the Spirit gave them utterance.  Acts 2:4.  This was repeated in the tenth chapter of Acts.  While Peter was yet preaching, a large group of Gentiles began speaking in tongues.  Acts 10:24-27 & 44-48.  In Acts 19:1-7, twelve Ephesians spoke in tongues when they received the Holy Ghost.  These large groups, speaking in tongues at the same time, is proof enough that this speaking in tongues is different from the gift of tongues.  Remember, the gift of tongues was to be exercised by one person at a time.  1 Cor 14:27

A LATTER RAIN

The baptism of the Holy Ghost is known as the latter rain.  Rain does not fall one drop at a time, but is poured out on all at the same time.  Acts 2:17.  The Bible example is that we will speak in tongues when we receive the Holy Ghost.  After receiving the Holy Ghost we are to covet earnestly the best gifts, one of which could be the gift of the tongues.  1 Cor. 12:21.

2.

FALSE
The gift of tongues was given on the Day of Pentecost to preach the gospel to men of other nationalities and tongues.

TRUE
It is true, the 120 spoke in many languages on the day of Pentecost.  Acts 2:9-11.  This was given as a sign of evidence to all that something great and supernatural was taking place.  The truth is when Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost, he lifted up his own voice and began to speak.  Acts 2:14.  Most of the Jews visiting Jerusalem on this occasion were bilingual.  They spoke the language of their home province and also spoke the common language of that day, which was Greek.  When Peter finished preaching, 3000 understood and obeyed his command to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.  Acts 2:38-41.  The fact that Peter did not preach in tongues then or ever, should explode the false notion that tongues was given to preach in.

3.

FALSE
Paul forbids the church to speak in tongues 1 Cor. 14:39

TRUE
Just the opposite is true.  1 Cor. 14:5 Paul said, I would that ye all spake with tongues.  When he said in 1 Cor 14:39, forbid not to speak in tongues, he wasn't forbidding tongues.  I challenge any to misinterpret the following translations:

Revised standard Vers: Do not forbid speaking in tongues.

Living letters: Never say it is wrong to speak in tongues.

Phillips Mod. Eng: Not forbidding to speak in tongues.

Amplified Bible: Do not hinder speaking in tongues.

What further proof should we need that speaking in tongues is not forbidden, but rather encouraged?

4.

FALSE
Paul said, I speak in tongues more than ye all. 1 Cor. 14:18.  This merely meant that because of His superior education he had mastered more foreign languages than others

TRUE
1 Cor. 14:18-19.  I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.  Yet in the church, I had rather speak five words with my understanding.  That by my voice I might teach others also. than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.  It certainly makes sense that if Paul's "tongues" were languages he had learned, he would have no problem in understanding what he was saying.  How foolish it is to fight against this simple and wonderful Bible truth.

5.

FALSE
Whether there be tongues, they shall cease.  1 Cor. 13:8.  Many church leaders interpret this to mean that once the church is established, tongues will no longer be needed.

TRUE
Tongues shall cease, only when prophecy and and knowledge shall pass away.  1 Cor 13:8.  These gifts are necessary for the edifying of the body of Christ.  1 Cor. 14:3, 26.  These shall pass away only when that which is perfect is come.  1 Cor 13:10.  The only perfect one is Christ, God manifest in the flesh.  When he comes for his church, the gifts are no longer needed.  If Paul meant in the 13th chapter tongues were to cease at that time, why did he bother to write the next chapter which deals specifically with the use of tongues?

Have You Obeyed

The Great Commission
Which Was
A Command Of God?

Matt. 28:18-20

Vs. 18 Jesus had all power in Heaven and Earth. If there were two other persons there, they had no power.
Vs. 19 " Go ye therefore and teach all nations, Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
Vs. 20 "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have Commanded you."

Observe this please He did not say to baptize them using the words " Father, Son and Holy Ghost." We know that the name of the Son is " Jesus", and that He came in His Father's name. (St. John 5:43).

If the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are not three persons, who then are they?

Isaiah 9:6 Isaiah answers this very clearly. The Son (Jesus) shall be called " Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace."

Counselor -- Comforter

St. John 14:26 -- In the New International Version and the Amplified Version, plus others, the word "Counselor" is used for "Comforter".  All know that the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, or the Spirit of the departed Christ. (St. John 14:16-18)

The Mighty God

Isaiah called Him the Mighty God.  Rev. 1:8, Jesus calls Himself the Almighty God.  In Rev. 4:8 and Rev. 11:17, they worship Him and called Him the Lord God Almighty.

The Everlasting Father

While on the earth, Jesus had a dual nature.  He was both man and God.  In the Spirit, He was the Creator of all things.  (St John 1:3 and Col. 1:16-17)

Isaiah 44:24 records that God created all things alone and by Himself.  These Scriptures prove that Jesus was both God of the Old and New Testament alike.  The name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost must be the Lord Jesus.

The Mystery

1 Tim. 3:16 -- Paul tells us about the mystery of God.  He told us that God was made flesh and dwelt among us.  Read St. John 1:14.  It's like a great jigsaw puzzle.  We must put all scriptures together to get a clear and perfect picture of God.

St. John 16:25, 26 -- "These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs; but the time cometh when I shall show you plainly of the Father."

Vs. 26 -- "At that day ye shall ask in my name and I say not unto you that I will pray the Father for you."  Being now glorified with the Father, His dual nature was over.

Mark's Record

Mark 16:15-17 -- Jesus commanded His apostles to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." vs. 16 -- "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.  He that believeth not shall be damned."  Vs. 17 -- "In my name, they shall cast out devils and speak with new tongues."  Tongues is the initial evidence of the Holy Ghost.

Many great religious leaders teach that you are saved the moment you believe on the Lord Jesus and accept Him as your Savior.  How contrary this is to the great commission and commandments of God.

Luke's Version

Luke 24:45 -- Jesus opened up their understanding that they might understand the scripture.

Vs. 47 -- "Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name beginning at Jerusalem." (Not ending there).

Vs. 49 -- "I will send the promise of my Father upon you.  Tarry in Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high."

Acts 1:8 -- They received this power when they were baptized with the Holy Ghost.

They Obeyed

Acts 1:4 -- They were commanded to stay in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:13-15 -- All the apostles and close disciples, including Mary the mother of Jesus, obeyed His command.  Vs. 15 -- Altogether there were one hundred and twenty believers assembled there.

The Result

Acts 2:1-4 -- "On the day of Pentecost they were all in one accord and in one place."

Vs. 4 -- "They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."

There was a great multitude in Jerusalem at this time.  They were all amazed at what they had seen and heard.

The Commission

Acts 2:14-36 -- Peter, having the keys to the kingdom, preached a very convicting message to the multitude.

Vs. 37 -- "When they heard this they were pricked in their hearts.  They said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren what shall we do'?"

Vs. 38 -- Then Peter said unto them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Vs. 39 -- "This promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."  Friend, this includes us two thousand years later.  It's a wonderful experience!

Vs. 41 -- They that gladly received His word were baptized the same day.  There were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Door Opens to Gentiles

Acts 10: 1-48 -- In a vision, Cornelius, a very devout man, was visited by an angel who told him to send for Peter. He said that peter would tell him what he ought to do.  Please note Acts 11:14 -- "Words whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved."  In the meantime Peter also had a vision from the lord showing him that this great salvation was for the gentiles also.

Peter went to the household of Cornelius and preached unto him concerning Jesus, Verses 44-46 -- "As Peter was preaching the Holy Ghost fell upon the gentiles for they heard them speak in other tongues and magnify God."

Baptism Commanded

Vs. 47-48 -- "Can any man forbid water that these that have received the Holy Ghost as well as we should not be baptized?"  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (RV)

Question

If you have the Holy Ghost and have not been baptized in Jesus name, don't you think this command would be for you also?  Remember -- there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Born Again

St. John 3: 3-7 -- Jesus told Nicodemus he could not see or enter the kingdom of God unless he was born again.  Nicodemus asked the Lord, "How can a man be born when he is old?"

Vs. 5 -- Jesus said, "Except a man be born of water and spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

Vs. 7 -- Jesus uttered a command, "Ye must be born again."

Friend, the scriptural truth has been set before you.
It's in your hands now.
Don't turn your back on it.

DOES THE BIBLE
CONTRADICT
ITSELF?

YES,

IF THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY IS RIGHT

IT TEACHES THAT THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST ARE THREE SEPARATE & DISTANCE PERSONS.  EACH CO-ETERNAL & CO-EXISTENT & CO-EQUAL IN POWER

FIVE MAJOR CONTRADICTIONS

1.  CREATION
Genesis the first chapter God the Father created all things
Isaiah 44:24 God made all things alone and by himself
The Contradiction St. John 1:3 & 10 with Colossians 1:14-16 --  Here the Bible says that everything was made by Jesus
Dr. Graham in a 1995 broadcast used the above scriptures and said he couldn't understand it, but still believes in the trinity.
2.  THE FATHER
Luke 1:32 Here Jesus was called the Son of the highest (God the Father)
The Contradiction Matthew 1: 18-20.  Here Matthew clearly tells us that the Father of Jesus was the Holy Ghost.
3.  THE "I AM"
Exodus 3:14 God said "I Am that I Am, Tell them that I Am hath sent you."
The Contradiction St John 8:58, Jesus said "Before Abraham was, 'I AM.'"  Israel, knowing that "I AM' referred to Jehovah God, picked up stones to kill him.
The Hebrew word for "I AM' is HAVAH, (pronounced Haw,Yaw).   It means "Jehovah God, The Self Existent One."
4.  THE FIRST AND THE LAST
Isaiah 44: 6 & 8 The LORD (JEHOVAH) said "I am the first and I am the last, and beside me there is no God."
The Contradiction Revelation 1:8, 11 and 17   Here Jesus declares that he himself is the first and the last and the Almighty
5.  THE RESURRECTION
Acts 3:15 & 26 with Galatians 1:1 God the Father raised up Jesus from the dead
The Contradiction John 2:19 & 21   Jesus said, "Destroy this temple (his body) and in three days I will raise it up.

THE ONENESS DOCTRINE
REMOVES ALL CONTRADICTIONS

1.  CREATION

Adam Clark said in his commentary on St. John 1:3  "God and Christ are said to have created all things, therefore Christ and the Father are one."

Jesus clearly said, "I and my father are one."  John 10:30
Hath not one God created us.  Mal 2:10

2. THE FATHER

It is impossible for Christ to have had two fathers.  Therefore the Holy Ghost and the Father are the one and the selfsame spirit.

3.  THE 'I AM'

This sacred name could not be used by two persons.  John 8:58-59 when Jesus used it they tried to kill him because they thought he was claiming to be God.

4.  THE FIRST & THE LAST

It is utterly unthinkable to have two firsts and two lasts.  Therefore Christ and God are one.  Just as Jesus said in St. John 10:30.  "I and my Father are one."

5.  THE RESURRECTION

Here Jesus speaks from his divine nature letting us know he was both God and man.  Jesus raised his own body from the grave.  St. John 2: 19 & 21.

KEY TO UNDERSTANDING

You must keep in mind the dual nature of Christ, being God manifest in the flesh, he could speak and act as both man and God.

Understanding the oneness of God removes all contradictions in the Bible

Peter's Conversion

Or
When does conversion
take place?

And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:  But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."

And he said unto Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison and death."

And He said, "I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me."  Luke 22:31-34.

There are two things that you must know;  FIRST, that Peter was a very strong believer in Christ. He had followed him for over three years. He witnessed so many miracles that he could not help but believe in Christ.

Greatest Proof of faith

When Jesus asked at Caesarea Philippi, "Whom do men say that I am?," Peter answered, "Thou are the Christ, the Son of the Living God."  Peter's confession of faith so pleased the Lord that he gave him the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.
SECONDLY, I wish to make it clear that Peter, like many Christians today, though strong believers, have a false sense of security. Peter, confident that his faith was sufficient, said, "Lord, I will go with Thee even unto death."  Because he had not yet been converted, when confronted at the trial of Jesus, he cursed and denied that he had ever known the Lord.  Matthew 26:69-75.  The purpose of this article is to render sufficient evidence that you are not saved or converted by merely believing on the Lord Jesus.  The devil believes and trembles.  James 2:19.

Modern DD's -- Doctors of Deception

The world's foremost evangelist had a question and answer column in many newspapers; most Christians accept his word as law.  A woman wrote in and asked, "Doctor, when are we born again? This great evangelist's answer was very far from the truth. He replied, "The moment you believe in Christ, that very instant you are born again." A Gallup poll said that 96% of Americans believe in God.  I dare say that very few of these are saved and living for God. A spiritual conversion involves a complete change of heart. Jesus told Nicodemus he must be born again of the water and the Spirit or he could not enter into the Kingdom of God. John 3:3-5.

Not once!

Not once does the Bible say that you are saved the moment you believe on Jesus.  It does say that you shall be saved if you believe on the Lord Jesus.  Any educated person knows that shall is a future tense verb.  Believing is definitely the first step in obtaining salvation. This must be followed by repenting and obeying the commands of the Lord. Jesus said, "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved." Mark 16:16. Believing alone doesn't remit sins.  Peter, using the keys that Jesus gave him, said, "Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38.  Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. Heb 9:22.  The blood is closely associated with the name of Jesus. Acts 5:28.  That's why Peter commanded us to be baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins.

Believing didn't convert peter

Peter was not converted when he confessed that Jesus was the Son of God. His declaration of faith took place before Jesus told him to be converted. Luke 22:32.  After confession Christ as Savior, Peter cursed and lied and denied that he ever knew the Lord. Matt. 26:69-75.  Just believing sure didn't save or convert Peter!

commands of Jesus

In Acts 1:4 Jesus commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. Luke 24:49.  Jesus commanded them to tarry in Jerusalem until they be endued with power from on high. Whence this power?  Acts 1:8 Jesus said, "Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost comes upon you."  Yes, you are still weak and unconverted without the power of the Holy Ghost, even though you are a believer.

obedience

Acts 5:32, God only gives the Holy Ghost to them that obey Him. The disciples obeyed Him and returned to Jerusalem to await the converting power of the Holy Ghost. With them was the strongest believer of them all:  Mary, the mother of Jesus.  Because of the virgin birth, there was no question in the heart of Mary that Jesus was the Son of God.

promise fulfilled

That which the 120 were prayerfully awaiting, fell upon all of them (including Mary).  They all received the Holy Ghost and spake in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4.  It was then that Peter came into full being as a converted, born again Christian.

the glorious results

The tide had changed; Peter no longer hid behind the crowd and denied Jesus. Having received the keys to the kingdom and endued with power, he stood before the multitudes, many who had helped crucify Jesus. Using the keys, he preached a dynamic and convincing message.  He told them that He who they crucified was both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:26.

God's plan of salvation

Great conviction fell upon the multitude, and they cried out, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"  Peter's answer has been the New Testament plan of salvation until this day.,  "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins, and ye shall receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost.  The promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.  "Acts 2:37-39.  Friend, are you called?  If so, then this promise is for you also.
If the Apostles and Mary, the mother of Jesus, had to have this wonderful experience, can we afford to neglect it?  Paul asked, "How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?"  In closing, may I ask you the question that Paul asked the Ephesian believers:  Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? Acts 19:2-6.  Please don't accept the teaching that you are saved the moment you believe.  Paul re-baptized the Ephesian believers in the name of Jesus and prayed with them until they received the Holy Ghost and spake in tongues.  Can you afford to settle for anything less than a Bible experience?

The Double Deception

Eternal Security

Is Eternal Security Biblical?

The Largest protestant church in America teaches it to all their new converts.

They are guilty of Double Deception.  First, by telling them they are saved the moment they believe on the Lord Jesus.  Secondly, by telling them that since they are saved, they can never be lost.

Let the Bible speak

The first lie is that you are saved by only believing.  Jesus said you must be born again of water and Spirit, St. John 3:5.  He also said, he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved,  Mark 16:16.  Peter, having the keys to the kingdom, told the multitude on the Day of Pentecost how to be saved.  REPENT and be BAPTIZED every one of you THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST, Acts 2:38.  How could you possibly be saved without your sins remitted.  Paul had his washed away by baptism, Acts 22:16.

The second lie, now that you believe and are saved, you can never be lost.  The BIBLE SPEAKS LOUD AND CLEAR AGAINST THAT.

Heb. 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who were once enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted of the good Word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame."

After enjoying all the earmarks of salvation that Paul listed and then willfully go back and continue in sin, your heart will be hardened to the point where it is impossible to repent.  Without repentance, you are hopelessly lost.  When their "only believe" converts reach this state they tell them they were never saved in the first place.  Having lied to them from the beginning, they now add insult to injury.

Paul continues--Heb. 10:26-29 - If we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins -- only judgment and fiery indignation.  Paul said we, including himself and the church.

1 Cor. 9:27 - Paul said unless he was able to keep his body under subjection he would be a castaway.  Will there be castaways in heaven?

Paul Again - Rom. 11:21-22 - "If God spared not the natural branches (Israel), take heed lest He spare not thee, (Church).  Behold, therefore, the goodness and severity of God; on them which fell severity; but toward thee goodness, if thou continue in His goodness, otherwise thou (saved) also shall be cut off."

Peter Agrees - 2 Peter 2:20-22 - "If they escape the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse than the beginning,"  BOTH AGREE - NO ETERNAL SECURITY.

Jesus Said - Luke 9:62 - "No man having put his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God." REMEMBER LOT'S WIFE.

Jesus Warns Us - Again - St. John 15:5-6 - "I am the vine, ye are the branches, he that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit for without me ye can do nothing.  If a man abideth not in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned."

Dynamic Truth By Paul - 1 Cor. 10:8-12 "Neither let us (Church) commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.  Neither let us tempt Christ as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by the serpents."

"Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.  All of these things happened unto them as ensamples; and they were written for our admonition, unto whom the ends of the world are come.  Wherefore, let him that thinketh he stands take heed lest he fall."

It's very difficult to find ETERNAL SECURITY in the Bible.

CONCLUSION

We are quick to admit that God is very merciful and willing that none should perish.  He is always ready to forgive the repentant.  The danger lies in wilfully sinning after we have come to the knowledge of the truth, Heb. 10:26-29. This puts God to an open shame and counts the blood as an unworthy thing.

Many fall prey to this DOUBLE DECEPTION, being told they were saved when they were not.  They are then told that they can never be lost.  They reason, since we can never be lost, let's take the line of least resistance and let the flesh enjoy itself.

Isaiah
The
Oneness prophet
QUESTION Why was he and all the Jewish prophets oneness?
ANSWER The first and greatest commandment of the law, according to Jesus, demanded it.  Mark 12:29 & 30 with Matthew 22: 36-38.
WHAT LAW? Deuteronomy 6: 4-9 Hear, O Israel, the LORD our god is one LORD.  They must believe in one god and love him with all their heart, soul and might; their children must be taught this at all times.

Read Scofields Footnotes under Deut. 6: 4-9.  These scriptures in Hebrew Liturgy are known as the SH'MAH, (pronounced shemah)

Sh'mah

The Apostles and authors of the New Testament, being Jewish, were taught the SH'MAH from childhood on up.  They could not possibly believe in a trinity consisting of three separate and distinct persons.  They knew that Jesus Christ was God manifest in the flesh.  1 Timothy. 3:16

The International Encyclopedia, Vol. 16, pg 221 states that the trinity did not form any part of the apostles' teaching.

Emil Brunner, considered the foremost scholar of the twentieth century, said the idea of three separate persons is incredulous.  He said that would be Tri-theistic or Three Gods

Isaiah -  what saith thou?

Holy one

1.  Isaiah. 1:4 - Here Isaiah states that the LORD is the HOLY One of Israel.  In the New Testament Jesus is known as the Holy One of Israel.  This term is used over fifty times in the bible.  Never once was the term Holy Two or Holy Three ever used.  Isn't that strange trinitarians?

Immanuel - god with us

2.  Isaiah. 7:14 - He says that a virgin would conceive and bring forth a son and his name would be called Immanuel.

This was fulfilled in Matthew 1:23.  When Christ was born "they shall call his name  Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."  Yes, Jesus was God manifest in the flesh.  1 Timothy 3:16

mighty god (son)

3.  Isaiah 9:6 - Unto us a child is born and a son is given (Jesus).  He shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.  Isaiah saw him as Immanuel, God with us and now as the Mighty God and Everlasting Father.  No trinity here

one god & one saviour

4.  Isaiah 43: 10 & 11. -  Vs 10: Ye are my witnesses saith the LORD, that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he:  Before me there was no god formed, neither shall there be after me.
Vs 11: I, even I, am the LORD and beside me there is no saviour.  Yes, Jesus Christ of the New Testament is the LORD Jehovah of the Old Testament.

STRONGS, 3068 - the Jewish name of God is Jehovah, the LORD.  When LORD in the Old Testament is spelled with all capitals it means Jehovah.  It occurred 7,000 times.

STRONGS, 2962 - Kuros, in Greek - In the New Testament, when Lord is spelled with a capital L, it always means Jehovah.  It is used that way 800 times in the New Testament.

Isaiah -  tell us more

first and last

5.  Isaiah 44: 6 & 8 - Vs 6:  I am the first and the last and beside me there is no God.   Vs 8:  Is there a God beside me?  Yea, there is no God; I know not any.   Trinitarians know more than God.

Only one creator

6.  Isaiah 44:24  Jehovah said, I am the LORD that Maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the Earth by Myself.

Hear! Hear! Hear!

Col 1:14-17 - for by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in Heaven and Earth.  He is before all things and by Him all things exist.  What further proof do we need that Christ and God are One?  Thank you Isaiah and Paul for further confirmation on the oneness of God

Malachi 2:10 agrees with Isaiah that we have only one father and one creator.

who is equal to god

7.  Isaiah 46:5 - To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?

The Answer:  Philippians 2:6 - Jesus, who being in the form of God, (like him) thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

Isaiah -  opens our eyes

his holy arm

8.  Isaiah 52: 6 & 10:  Vs 6:  Isaiah prophesies concerning the day of Christ.  In that day they shall know his name.  Vs. 10:  "the Lord hath made bare his holy arm and they shall see the salvation of our God

Isaiah 53:1 - To whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?  This entire chapter tells us that the arm of the LORD is Jesus.  Read it carefully and prayerfully.

The husband's bride

9.  Isaiah 54: 5 - Thy Maker is thine husband: the LORD of hosts is his name, and they Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; the God of the whole earth shall he be called.

The church is now the bride of Christ.  What an honor to be the bride of God of the whole earth.  His name is Jesus.  Are you ready for the marriage supper of the lamb?

hated for his name's sake

10.  Isaiah 66:5 - Your brethren that hated you and cast you out for my name's sake.  He shall appear to your joy and they shall be ashamed.

Mark 13:13 - Jesus said, "Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake."

Many times we who baptize in Jesus name have been refused fellowship by our Trinitarian brothers and vilified openly.  We want them to know that we will always love them.

BAPTISMAL COMMANDS

IN A CAPSULE

THE GREAT COMMISSION

GO -- BAPTIZE, ALL NATIONS IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON AND THE HOLY GHOST

Matthew 28:19

The Lord's command was to baptize in the name of God, not His titles. Everyone knew that the name of the son was Jesus. When Christ was circumcised at the age of eight days, as the custom was, He took upon the name of His Father - "Jesus," meaning Jehovah, Salvation. Luke 2:21.  The Holy Ghost being the Father, had the same name. Matthew 1:18 & 20.  Jesus sent the Holy Ghost in His name. St. John 14:26

GOD'S COMMANDS

Jesus said if ye love me ye will keep my commandments. St John 14:21.   John said His commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3

The apostles were in one accord on the Day of Pentecost when they obeyed the Great Commission by baptizing three thousand in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 2:38 & 41

They also obeyed the Lord's command given in Luke 24:47 when Jesus said that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name (Jesus), beginning at Jerusalem.

Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born again of the water and the Spirit. St John 3:5 --
 This coincides with Acts 2:38

CAPSULIZING THE TRUTH

The Gentiles received the Holy Ghost and spake in tongues.   Then Peter said, "Can any forbid water that these should not be baptized?'  He commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 10:44-48 RV with Acts 11:14.  Water baptism is not a matter of choice, it is a direct command

Paul obeyed God's command to arise and be baptized, to wash away his sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (Jesus) Acts 22:16

The Ephesians had been baptized wrong. Paul obeyed God's command and rebaptized them in the name of the Lord Jesus. They then received the Holy Ghost and spake in other tongues. Acts 19:1-6

Baptism plays a major role in salvation. Mark 16:16, 17.  Jesus did not say he that believeth shall be saved. He said he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.

Peter writing about the flood said eight souls were saved by water. The like figure even baptism doth also now save us.  1 Peter 3:20, 21

NO OTHER NAME

Acts 4:12 -- Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is non other name under heaven -- whereby we must be saved.

Friend, we beseech you to make sure you have obeyed the New Testament plan of salvation. The name of Jesus is a must
